Beauty Out of Ugliness

Beauty Out of Ugliness

Nature, brutal bitch she can be at times, is also capable of beauty.
Gail just came in from taking the dogs out.  She called me to come look at how the ice melted on the light on our porch.
I thought I’d go ahead and share it with you.
I still hate the winter.  I hate the cold.  [...]

Billy the Snitch!

Billy the Snitch!

OK, enough is enough.  It is now a week — a WEEK — since the first of the two snowstorms, and there STILL has not been a snow plow through this trailer park.  TJ managed to get to work this morning, but said it was a hassle getting out of the park.  All the other [...]

Back in Business Tomorrow

Back in Business Tomorrow

Government is back in business tomorrow.  It’s still “liberal leave” but at least stuff will get done.
Who am I kidding?  I’ve been busier these last few days of “Government Closed” than I usually am on a regular day.
Today, for instance.  I recorded the soundbites for a podcast I’ll produce tomorrow about how the NIH Clinical [...]

Snapshots from a Snowbound Hell

Snapshots from a Snowbound Hell

Went outside last night just before bedtime to snap a few photos of the frozen white doom that surrounds us.
This first one is the only one I took without flash.  I wanted to get a shot of the scene without the flash capturing the snow being blown around.

The rest of these are just random shots [...]

Federal Government Closed AGAIN on Thursday

Federal Government Closed AGAIN on Thursday

As I said yesterday, for the four years I was a federal employee in the Bush administration, we never had a day where the government was closed for bad weather.
Tomorrow will make the 5th day in a month… 4th in a row.
It was hellish out there today.  Nearly two feet of snow, and now it’s [...]

Guess What! It’s SNOWING! AGAIN!

Guess What! It’s SNOWING! AGAIN!

It seems as if the second part of this Snowmageddon has descended upon us.  The snow started falling in earnest at about 4 or so.  There’s been about 2 inches so far, and they’re calling for 6 to 10 during the overnight with total accumulations of 12 to 18.
The government will be closed again tomorrow… [...]

Them Ain’t CLOUDS There, Bunky!

Them Ain’t CLOUDS There, Bunky!

I‘m sick to the point of nausea of writing about the snow.  Now, poised on the brink of Snowpocalypse II, in which we expect another 10-20 inches of crap to be dumped on top of the 38 inches we got over the weekend, a cool photo has surfaced.
This photo was taken Sunday by NASA’s Terra [...]

Where’s the Freakin’ SNOW PLOW???

Where’s the Freakin’ SNOW PLOW???

36 hours since the last flake has fallen, and here at the Capital Mobile Home Park in Elkridge, MD, we have yet to see a snow plow.  There’s going to be another storm tomorrow afternoon that could dump another 5+ inches on top of the 30 inches we already have.
People in this park cannot get [...]

Snowpocalpyse Part VI — TJ Feeds Himself to the Snow Demons

It’s shortly after 2pm.  It’s been snowing for 27 hours straight.  We have, probably, six hours to go.  We’ve gotten over 30 inches of snow.  And Gail and TJ have done a great job keeping the porch, driveway, sidewalk and doggie poop corral clear.
It is to them and their pioneer spirit that this film is [...]

I Feel Somewhat Useless…

I Feel Somewhat Useless…

My wife and stepson have been out in the snow now for nearly two hours… taking breaks to come in and warm up a bit.  I’ve been sitting here in my PJ’s, making coffee, keeping an eye on the dogs, acting like the stereotypical frontier woman while her men do the dangerous chores outside.
It’s been [...]

Snowpocalypse Part IV — Night Settles In

This will be the final post of the evening.  If you log in to this website tomorrow by, oh, say, 10 am or so, and there’s no new video…
Assume the worst!
Now.  Watch the video.

Snowpocalypse Part III — The Early Stages

THE STORM THUS FAR…
The snow started around 11.  Around 2, it began to stick to grassy surfaces.  Around 5 it began sticking to the street.  Now it’s starting to pile up.  A bit more than an inch so far.  29 to go.
As of yet the dogs show no signs of going feral.  The fish, on [...]

Snowpocalypse Part II — The Advent

Shortly before 11 am the snow began to fall.  The beginning of a 36-hour snowfall that will surely kill us all.  Watch the video and see what we ate for what could be our final meal.
Hint:  It’s CHEESY!
(I’m speaking of the entree — although the video could be called that as well…)
Enjoy.
